I’m Penny Brobyn. I am always a work in progress. I often compare myself to that fascinating old grapevine known as a “gnarly vine”. No one knew if I would take off when I first began growing. In the beginning, there was hope that I could produce great things. I am often twisted, turned, and wrapped up around myself. There have been years where I have amazed and some where I have disappointed. There have been many challenges along the way, but I continue hanging on, getting better with age. The best of me is yet to come. The true beauty of it all is that nobody really knows the potential. Let’s just see what happens…and remember, there is always more to learn.
I’m 37, an opinionated woman, a wife, a mother, and a wine lover. I’ve had wine in my blood since I was a child. I grew up in a family that appreciated fine wine and I am no different. I didn’t realize until recently in my life that wine was so much of a part of me. However, I am just beginning to understand my perception of wine. I have tasted many wines, but, I went a step further, and started to take some classes. I am WSET Advanced Certified and just sat for my CSW. Through education, I wanted to learn how to taste wine, interpret it, and then be able to discuss it with others. I try to offer thoughtful evaluation that can be understood by anyone, novice or experienced. I follow traditional descriptors, and then add any other nuances I think I sense; whether it be visual, aroma, bouquet, texture, body, etc. I have my own opinions and they are often not accurate, but who cares? Not me. I just keep trying. The beauty is, there is no right or wrong; only topic for debate. Ahhhhh, to smell, to taste, to savor, but the fun is in the discussion. What do you pick up? It’s all about educating ourselves in something that is constantly changing. Wine is organic in both the physical and the philosophical. No one can never know it all, nor would I want to. What would be left for me if I did? I’ll share as I learn and I hope that you’ll do the same in return. Please feel free to comment, share links, email me, and tell me that I’m full of crap. I welcome it and I look forward to it. So, go get your “Juice” and let’s hang out.
